A few years ago, if Thinking Anglers uploaded a new video, you knew it was worth watching.
Their YouTube channel consistently produced some of the most enjoyable and informative carp fishing content around. It wasn’t just about catching fish—it was the storytelling, the atmosphere, the personalities and the cinematography that made it stand out. Whether it was a session with Scott Lloyd, Nick Hellieur or one of the other anglers involved with the brand, you always came away having learned something.
Fast forward to today, and things feel very different.
The YouTube channel has become incredibly quiet, with only a couple of uploads a year, and their social media presence seems to have slowed right down compared to what it once was.
It got me wondering…
What actually happened?
One thing that really made Thinking Anglers stand out was the people behind the camera as much as those in front of it. Scott Lloyd, in particular, seemed to have a real knack for creating engaging content that felt authentic rather than overly polished or sales-driven. The films were educational, entertaining and had a style that was instantly recognisable.
Has the team behind the content changed?
Have the people responsible for producing those films moved on and never been replaced?
Or has the company simply decided to focus its efforts elsewhere?
It’s a shame because, in my opinion, some of their older YouTube films still rank among the best ever produced by a tackle company. They managed to strike a balance between education, entertainment and subtle product promotion without feeling like one long advert.
With companies like Korda, Fox, Nash and others investing heavily in regular online content, it feels like Thinking Anglers have almost disappeared from YouTube in comparison.
Maybe there’s a strategy behind it that we’re not aware of, or perhaps resources have been redirected into other parts of the business. Whatever the reason, it feels like a real loss for anyone who enjoyed their films.
