Another independent tackle shop has sadly closed its doors, with Wensum Valley Angling announcing it has ceased trading after more than a decade in business.
The Taverham-based shop shared the news in a statement, saying the decision hadn’t been taken lightly and that the current retail climate had made it impossible to continue.
"After more than 10 years of trading, it is with great sadness that we announce that Wensum Valley Angling Ltd has closed its doors for the final time.
“This has not been a decision we have taken lightly. It has been a long, carefully considered process, but sadly the current retail climate has made it impossible for us to continue trading.”
The team went on to thank everyone who had supported the business over the years, including customers, suppliers and staff.
“Your support, friendship and loyalty over the years have meant more to us than words can ever express. We have been privileged to serve such a fantastic angling community and have made many lifelong friendships along the way.”
Like many independent tackle shops, Wensum Valley Angling offered anglers everything from bait and terminal tackle to luggage and larger items of fishing equipment.
The closure has sparked plenty of reaction from local anglers. Shallowbrook Lakes described the news as “such a shame” and said it was a sign of the times, pointing to the growing challenge independent retailers face as more anglers choose the convenience of ordering online from major retailers.
It’s another reminder of how difficult trading has become for smaller tackle shops across the UK.
