Squid and octopus flavours have been used in carp bait for years.
Part of the attraction is the strong savoury profile, which works naturally alongside fishmeal and other marine ingredients.
These boilies are often particularly popular on waters where carp already respond well to rich food baits.
That doesn’t mean the flavour name itself is what catches the fish.
The quality of the base mix, soluble ingredients and overall nutritional profile are far more important than whether the packet says squid, octopus or something completely different.
Marine-style baits can be used as whole boilies, chopped into particles or crumbed into spod mixes.
A matching or contrasting pop-up gives plenty of hookbait options.
Don’t assume they’re only summer baits either. A good fishmeal bait can still work in cold water when used sensibly.
