Solar’s Compact Spider uses a rapid-erect frame but adds independently adjustable frame legs through its Cam-Loc system.
Solar describes the shelter as having a square rear profile, internal Vapour Shield and a setup time of under 30 seconds. The bivvy itself is listed at around 8kg, with dimensions of roughly 2.7m wide, 1.5m deep and 1.6m high.
That puts it firmly in the compact one-person shelter category.
The square rear is particularly useful because curved shelters can lose a surprising amount of usable space behind the bedchair.
The modular approach also means anglers can add different front and groundsheet options depending on how they fish.
As always, the comparison will inevitably be made with Trakker’s Tempest family.
That’s not a bad thing.
More competition in rapid-erect bivvies gives anglers better choices.
Anyone using the Solar Compact Spider through a full winter?
