The benchmark for crushing boilies
If you regularly prepare your own spod mix, stick mix or PVA bags, a decent boilie crusher soon becomes one of those bits of kit you wonder how you ever managed without. After using the RidgeMonkey Advanced Boilie Crusher for the last couple of years, it’s easily become one of my favourite bait preparation tools.
I’ve tried crushing boilies by hand, using bags and mallets, and even a few cheaper crushers over the years. They all work to a point, but none come close to the speed, consistency and ease of the RidgeMonkey.
Fast, consistent and effortless
The biggest advantage is just how much bait it can process in a short amount of time. It’ll happily crush up to 3kg of boilies in around five minutes, making light work of what used to be a fairly tedious job.
Rather than turning everything into dust, it creates a nice mix of different-sized pieces. That’s exactly what I want in a spod mix, with larger chunks alongside smaller fragments that create plenty of attraction once they’re on the lakebed.
Whether I’m preparing bait before a session or knocking up a fresh mix on the bank, it saves a huge amount of time.
Built to last
Like most RidgeMonkey products, the build quality is excellent. The heavy-duty plastic body feels solid, the blades stay sharp and it has no problem dealing with both softer boilies and really hard air-dried baits.
After plenty of use over the last couple of years, mine still works just as smoothly as it did when it came out of the box.
Easy to use
Using it couldn’t really be simpler. Fill the chamber, lock it together, turn the handle and within seconds you’ve got perfectly crushed bait ready to use.
The handle turns smoothly without needing loads of effort, and the whole unit feels stable while you’re using it.
Cleaning is just as straightforward too. A quick tap to remove any remaining bait, spin the handle a few times and it’s ready for the next batch.
Is it worth buying?
It’s certainly more expensive than the smaller hand crushers on the market, but once you’ve used one it’s easy to understand why. If you only crush a handful of boilies every few months, you probably don’t need it. But if you’re regularly preparing bait for longer sessions, it quickly pays for itself in the amount of time and effort it saves.
For me, it’s still the best boilie crusher currently available. It’s reliable, incredibly quick, easy to clean and produces consistently good results every single time.
