For anglers fishing clear water or pressured venues, every little bit of concealment helps.
Could They Actually Make a Difference?
The interesting question is whether that slow release of attraction around your rig creates enough of a scent trail to encourage quicker investigations from carp.
Compared to simply glugging a lead before casting, the porous design should continue leaking attraction long after the cast, potentially creating a concentrated area of attraction right around your hookbait.
