The Angling Technics Microcat MK3 is one of those bait boats that has been around long enough to have built a proper reputation.
It isn’t trying to look like one of the latest GPS-packed smart boats. Instead, the Microcat has traditionally been about reliable bait delivery.
The MK3 uses two separate bait hoppers, allowing you to release them individually or together. It also uses a 2.4GHz control system, while the standard version uses jet-pump propulsion rather than exposed conventional propellers.
That makes the Microcat particularly interesting for shallow or weedy venues.
There are disadvantages.
It’s a substantial boat, older examples may have equally old batteries, and technology has moved on considerably since the MK3 was introduced.
If buying second-hand, I’d be far more interested in battery condition, pumps, handset operation and hopper mechanisms than a few scratches on the hull.
A good used Microcat can still be an excellent workhorse.
But if you’re buying specifically for GPS autopilot and modern mapping, newer alternatives may suit you better.
