Fox FX11 reel: compact big-pit style for carp fishing

The Fox FX11 sits between traditional smaller carp reels and the largest big-pit models.

That kind of size can make a lot of sense for anglers who want decent line capacity without hanging an enormous reel under every rod.

For medium-range UK fishing, you rarely need the full capacity of the largest 14000-style reels.

A slightly more compact reel can balance 10ft and 11ft rods better while still giving enough spool diameter for respectable casting.

If you’re buying FX11s second-hand, check the clutch, line roller and spool lip carefully.

Older carp reels often survive years of use, but grit and water around moving parts eventually take their toll.

The important question is whether the reel suits your actual fishing rather than whether a bigger model exists.

Any FX11 owners still using them as their main carp reels?
