Extra-wide carp bedchairs are wonderful.
Until you have to carry one.
The attraction is obvious.
More shoulder room.
More freedom to move.
And a sleeping position that feels much closer to a normal bed.
For bigger anglers, a wide bed can also be far more comfortable than squeezing onto a narrow conventional frame.
The problems are equally obvious.
Weight.
Packed size.
Bivvy footprint.
And transport.
Before buying any wide bedchair, measure the usable internal width of your shelter.
Don’t rely entirely on manufacturers’ external bivvy dimensions.
Sloping walls, frame supports and luggage can dramatically reduce usable space.
A wide bed might also stop you fitting a chair or table where you normally keep them.
If you drive directly to the swim and fish long sessions, go as comfortable as you like.
If you move regularly, every extra kilogram eventually becomes annoying.
Wide bedchair owners – could you ever go back to a standard one?
