Trakker Tempest V2 Brolly: why older Tempests remain popular

The Tempest V2 Brolly helped establish the quick-erect hub shelter as one of the standard designs in modern carp fishing.

Even though newer Tempest generations now exist, older V2 shelters still appear regularly on banks and on the second-hand market.

The appeal is straightforward.

They go up quickly, have a relatively compact footprint and avoid the collection of separate poles associated with traditional bivvies.

When buying an older Tempest, condition matters much more than age.

Check the fabric for fading and leaks.

Inspect the hub mechanism.

Look at pole joints, tension straps and zips.

And make sure any infill panels or groundsheet advertised with it are genuinely included.

Replacement accessories can also become harder to find as models age, so check compatibility before assuming a current Tempest accessory will fit a V2.

A good V2 can still be an excellent one-man shelter.

Anyone still using a Tempest V2 rather than upgrading?
