Trakker Big Snooze: still a good sleeping bag?

The Trakker Big Snooze has been around in different forms for a long time and remains a familiar name in carp sleeping bags.

The attraction is simple: sensible warmth without necessarily going to the size, weight and price of the heaviest winter sleep systems.

The current Big Snooze+ Smooth, for example, uses a smooth polyester lining, twin quick-release zips and bedchair attachment points, and Trakker lists it at around 3kg.

That smooth lining won’t appeal to everyone.

Some anglers love fleece because it feels immediately warm.

Others hate fighting their way out of fleece-lined bags when a bite alarm suddenly screams.

For normal spring, summer and autumn sessions, the Big Snooze concept makes a lot of sense.

Deep winter is a different matter, particularly if you’re somebody who feels the cold.

You can extend the useful season of a lighter sleeping bag dramatically by adding a thermal cover rather than immediately buying another complete bag.

Also remember that a good bag can’t compensate for a terrible mattress underneath you.

Insulation below your body is just as important as what’s on top.

Anyone still using a Big Snooze? How far into winter do you trust yours?
