RidgeMonkey toaster: gimmick or essential bit of bankside cooking kit?

The RidgeMonkey Connect-style toaster has probably changed carp fishing cuisine more than any tackle item has any right to.

Suddenly everyone became a bankside chef.

The basic design is essentially two pans that connect together, allowing food to be cooked from both sides while keeping everything relatively contained.

Toasties are the obvious use.

But anglers use them for breakfast wraps, pizza, burgers, steak, chicken and just about anything else that’ll fit inside.

The main advantage over carrying several normal pans is convenience.

One relatively compact piece of kit can cover a surprising amount of cooking.

The removable handles on some RidgeMonkey cookware are also genuinely useful when packing everything into a carryall.

The biggest mistake is cooking everything on maximum heat.

These pans can get extremely hot. Lower heat generally gives the centre of thicker food time to cook before the outside resembles charcoal.

And despite what carp-fishing social media might suggest, putting two slices of bread and half a supermarket into one toastie doesn’t necessarily improve it.
