ESP Tungsten Loaded Semi Stiff: why coated hooklinks remain so useful

A semi-stiff coated braid is one of the most versatile hooklink materials in carp fishing.

ESP’s tungsten-loaded versions add extra density so the hooklink naturally sits closer to the lakebed without relying on lots of separate putty.

The coating helps reduce tangles during the cast and gives the rig some structure.

By stripping a short section near the hook, you can create a flexible hinge while keeping the rest of the rig relatively stiff.

That works well for bottom baits, wafters and plenty of pop-up presentations.

The key is matching the material to the lakebed.

A very heavy hooklink over deep soft silt can bury itself more than you want.

Over clean gravel or firm clay, the same density may be ideal.

Always test a completed rig in the margin so you can see how it actually settles.
