Sometimes the forecast just looks too good to stay at home.
After almost a month away from the bank, Belfast angler Aaron McIlwaine spotted a window of overcast skies, light drizzle and a fresh westerly wind and decided to squeeze in a day session on his local water, Glenvale.
Aaron initially settled into a swim that gave him a good view across the lake, but despite a quiet start he stayed alert for any signs of fish.
Eventually, a couple of subtle shows at the far end caught his attention. Another fish followed, along with a patch of fizzing, and that was enough to convince him to pack up and move onto them.
It proved to be the key decision of the session.
Aaron positioned two rods amongst the activity and introduced a mixture of DNA Baits whole and crumbed test-bait boilies, fishing matching test-bait wafters over the top.
The move produced two dark Glenvale mirrors, topped by a cracking fish of 27lb 6oz, with an angry mid-double completing the brace.
A great example of why keeping your eyes on the water and being prepared to move can make all the difference on a short session.
