After spending 20 years chasing his first UK 30lb carp, Chris Bennett finally achieved a goal that had eluded him for decades—and he did it in spectacular fashion.
Fishing from the reliable Peg 10 on Holdens Lake, Chris targeted showing fish at 21 wraps using single solid bags tipped with two grains of yellow slow-sinking corn. It wasn’t long before one of the rods tore off, and after a tense battle he slipped the net under a stunning 31lb 4oz mirror—his long-awaited first UK thirty.
Most anglers would have been over the moon with that alone, but the session still had another surprise in store.
Later, Chris was into another fish, and this one turned out to be something truly special. Waiting in the net was the famous Ritchie’s Pet, weighing an incredible 39lb. Not only was it another PB, but he’d beaten the one he’d set earlier in the session by almost 8lb.
To spend two decades chasing a single milestone, then land two personal bests—including a fish pushing 40lb—in the same session is the kind of result every carp angler dreams about.
