Carp Waters A-Z

A1 Pits

Located just off the A1 near Newark, Nottinghamshire, this barren-looking complex is home of carp to upper-thirties. Fished by many of the east Midlands lads, the main attraction of the six gravel pits on site is Pit 6 which holds the bigger fish. Also known as South Muskham Fisheries, the venue is often flooded by the nearby River Trent.

Acton Burnell

Transformed into a prolific big carp venue by proprietor Rob Hales. Home of big commons and mirrors the two-water venue looks set to be one of the most talked-about fisheries of the new century. At only eight acres, the lower lake contains the biggest fish to mid-50s, with the top lake, known as Jurassic Park, holding twenty or so 40s

Birch Grove

Situated in Shropshire. A six-acre pool which was stocked with carp in the 70s. It was a day-ticket, doubles water through the 80s, then started to develop as a 20s and 30s water through the 90s. Fished on a weekly-ticket basis through the summer and autumn, and by a winter syndicate from November to March.

Broadlands Lake

A very popular day-ticket water just off the M27 at Ower, near Romsey, in Hampshire. Originally famous as a day-ticket fishery, but now fished by a syndicate, with the double-figure and 20lb fish being regularly featured in the carp and angling press.

Catch 22

Norfolk. Two waters on site, one a syndicate and the other a popular day-ticket venue. Both waters were drained down and stocked with Dutch mirrors and commons in the early 90s. The syndicate water contains carp to 40lb-plus whilst the day-ticket water is heavily stocked with fish to 40lb.

Ashlea Pool

Situated near South Cerney in Gloucestershire. A very small carp pool of an acre which was fished by a small syndicate throughout the second half of the century. Originally made famous by Jack Hilton in his book Quest for Carp.

Bluebell Lakes

Situated in Northamptonshire, Kingfisher Lake and Swan Lake on the Bluebell complex have both produced carp to over 60lb. Benson is the biggest common and lives in Kingfisher with the Creature being the biggest mirror and living in Swan Lake.

Brooklands

A 22-acre Dartford DAPS gravel pit situated in Dartford, Kent. One of the first English carp waters to produce 20lb carp. One of the waters on which Fred Wilton tested his revolutionary HNV bait theories in the 70s, which were covered in The Third BCSG Book.

Chad Lakes

A small water complex comprised of two lakes and owned by Dave Ayres. Home Pool is run as a syndicate and holds Black Eye the mirror at over 50lb with the other water run as a day ticket venue with carp to mid-20s.
